Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson has announced that the government has made $39.1 million available to low- and moderate-income families. The press release says that this money will help 850,000 families.
Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, of Columbus, received $30,000 through the program to offer Homeownership Counseling.
This sounds great on paper, and plays well in this season of politics. But, what does it really mean?
They are giving $39.1 million to counsel people on home ownership or how to keep their home. Counsel?
I'm not trying to be mean but as the price of homes continue to inflate in central Ohio and incomes fail to keep touch, what does counseling do? It seems a bit like teaching people to fish -- in the middle of the desert. Yes you have a skill, but can you use it?
